Managerial accounting is the discipline of using cost information to make better decisions. This course goes beyond the textbook formulas to the questions managers actually face: what to make with scarce capacity, how to price, which customers really make money, how to plan and budget without distorting behaviour, how to judge divisions and set transfer prices, and how to design measures and incentives that people do not game.
What you will be able to do
- Connect cost management to strategy with value-chain analysis, target and life-cycle costing and cost-driver analysis.
- Apply multi-product CVP under uncertainty and with non-linear costs.
- Make constrained decisions using relevant costs, limiting factors, linear programming and shadow prices.
- Price with demand economics and measure customer, channel and product profitability including cost-to-serve.
- Build driver-based budgets, rolling forecasts and an integrated master and cash budget.
- Attribute performance with flexible budgets and apply responsibility accounting and controllability realistically.
- Evaluate divisions with ROI, residual income and EVA and set transfer prices that support group value.
- Design scorecards, KPIs and incentives, anticipate behavioural effects and support investment decisions.
- Present decision-ready recommendations and handle ethical pressure using the IMA Statement of Ethical Professional Practice.
